Melting.......

It is too damn hot for Washington weather! We're looking at hitting 100F today and I'm concerned for the reptiles. They all have water and heat is turned off so their isn't much more we can so. I'm sure looking forward to next week when it cools off!

Farewell to a friend

I just found out today that my dear friend Lee passed away last week. It was not expected though he had experienced health issues in the past.

He has been a close friend since I met him, always there for me when needed and was with Dave and me as a witness at our wedding. I have many fond memories of the things we did together and the times we shared. I thank him for sharing his love of old music, good TV and love of life.

I will miss him very much and just wish we had been able to make that lunch date we were planning.
Such is the way of life. I'm sure he's running around making people smile wherever he is now!

holiday wishes...for me

So, some people have asked what type of gifts I might like during the holidays/birthday. here's a few ideas.

Gift Certificate to Emerald City Tattoo
GC for Yazdi
Tshirts (2x) or short socks
"The Complete Chondro" by Greg Maxwell (availabe on his website www.finegtps.com)
neat earrings, necklaces, etc
wine charms/glasses/wines
board games (German, Rio Grande, etc)
knitting things (wood needles, patterns, etc)
GC to the Bean Farm
electric skillet (yep, something domestic!)
DVDs (pretty much any movie from the last year, LOST series, current seasons of House or Bones, Stargate Atlantis, etc)

I'm sure there are other things and to be honest, I'll be happy with most anything that my friends/family decide to get me.

So today, I got to take "own a Green Tree python" off my list as I now have an adult pair I'm "fostering" for a friend. These guys have got to be one of the most beautiful snakes in the world and hopefully I'll have babies in the Spring from them.

I still haven't seen them as I was at work when Dave took delivery of the box. There are a couple of quick pictures behind the cut for those that are interested..I'm sure I'll have more as the days go by!

Pretty green snakesCollapse )

My turn...

Some of my friends have been taking this test..so now it's my turn. Kinda accurate, too!

Your result for The Perception Personality Image Test...

NBPC - The Daydreamer

Nature, Background, Big Picture, and Color

You perceive the world with particular attention to nature. You focus on the hidden treasures of life (the background) and how that fits into the larger picture. You are also particularly drawn towards the colors around you. Because of the value you place on nature, you tend to find comfort in more subdued settings and find energy in solitude. You like to ponder ideas and imagine the many possibilities of your life without worrying about the details or specifics. You are in tune with all that is around you and understand your life as part of a larger whole. You are a down-to-earth person who enjoys going with the flow.

So, Dave and I finally settled on a date for our housewarming party. The festivites will occur on September 21st, from 2pm until 9pm or so.

Leave a comment for address and other info so that we don't get everyone from LJ coming by (the house isn't THAT big)!

*******************************
There once was a family from Shoreline
Who needed more space to be fine
They packed up a truck
And with some grand luck
Found a new home in Be-ur-ine

Ok, I suck at limericks but that doesn’t change the fact that…

It’s party time!

That’s right friends and family, the circle has been drawn, the house has been blessed and now it is time for Deb, Dave and Bob as well as Molli, Austin (unless he’s adopted before then), Marf and a lot of fish, snakes and geckos to welcome the public into our home.

Come join us at  our secrect location on September 21st, Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. for food, drink and friendship.

Meat and music will be provided by the Alverson clan. Bring a refreshing adult beverage of your choice and a dish to share. Come and let our various circles of friend meet each other and bless our home with our presence!

Please leave a comment for directions and RSVP info.

New things can be scary...

Share

So, the other day, my QA manager came up to me and asked if I wanted to be the lead on a new team - one that would work on things for a part of the company and also have "floating" help for other teams if they needed it (and we weren't busy). Since I'm already doing pretty much Lead work anyhow, I told him that I'd be interested.

He just came up to me this morning and let me know that we're going to be traveling to RI early next month to chat with the QA team and the managers to see how we can work out working together. To say I'm a bit apprehensive is an understatement! Now that it's becoming more real, it's rather scary to think I'll be responsible for a team of testers and a project.

I'm looking forward to flying into Boston again, though. When I went a few years ago, it was beautiful..and this is a good time to go, too. Too bad it will be a quick trip. Travel on Monday and Wednesday and meeting on Tuesday.

Now to start planning!
